Our mission is to actively seek the prevention of births of unwanted puppies and kittens in our community and to vigorously pursue this endeavor until pet over-population no longer exists!
Holly Help invites you to check out the many animals in need of good homes at the Sullivan County Animal Shelter. You can view them by visiting the SCAS's Petfinder Web site by clicking this link:
SCAM WARNING
People who use Holly Help to adopt out pets are advised to be wary about a ploy that scam artists use to get your money on the pretense of being interested in adopting your animals. Check out this Web site for details:
As the advisory notes, most of these e-mailed offers purport to ship pets outside the United States. Remember: If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Hurricane Katrina (Aug.-Sept. 2005)
The Holly Help Spay Fund was quick in responding to the Food City Convoy Relief Effort. Holly Help rushed its donation of 800 pounds of pet food to aid the animal victims of Hurricane Katrina, along with a check for medical supplies to the Humane Society of the United States, Disaster Relief Fund. (Relief effort photos available for viewing at our Sixth Street office location)
Pet Spay Assistance:
The Holly Help Memorial Spay Fund is always happy to financially assist with the sterilization of community cats and dogs. Holly Help will complete a short application by telephone and a list of participating veterinary clinics will be offered from which to choose. We do not pry into personal financial histories nor do we have any minumim requirements which must be met before we will help an animal. The entire process of setting up an appointment to have a pet spayed takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Call 276-466-5375 for further information!

As of this date, the Holly Help Memorial Spay Fund has provided spay-neuter assistance for over 10,000 animals!! Because one unspayed female animal can produce between 50,000 and 350,000 offspring in a 5 year period, our sterilization rate thus far will make a very substantial dent in the over-population rate of cats and dogs in our community.
We have successfully recycled approximately 51 tons of aluminum cans which were generously donated to us by the animal-friendly public! The proceeds were used to pay for the surgeries of these animals. It takes approximately 4000 aluminum cans to pay for the surgery of one animal.
EARLY AGE SPAY/NEUTER IS ADVISED!
Who We Are
The Holly Help Memorial Spay Fund is a Bristol based organization which focuses strictly on subsidizing the spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats. We were founded in the Spring of 2001 and are registered with the Bristol, Tenn. courthouse to solicit gifts of aluminum cans in Bristol and the surrounding area. We rely on the money received from recycling aluminum cans to fund our surgeries. We are all volunteers.
As we all know, pet overpopulation in our country is at an all time high. Across the United States, 7 million unwanted animals are put to death each year because of lack of good homes for these pets. Right here in our own community, a weekly average of 100 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized in area shelters.
There is only one solution to this problem... surgical sterilization to prevent unwanted litters of puppies and kittens from being born. Holly Help Memorial Spay Fund is committed to this purpose.
Adopting a friend...
is the most wonderful thing you can do. You will have unconditional love and enjoyment for a long time. And a closet full of memories that will last you a life time!
Please email us if you are interested in bringing one of these wonderful animals into your heart.
Together we "can recycle" a life!
Items Needed
One man's trash is another man's treasure! We ask that you save your aluminum cans for us. We will, in turn, do all the rest. These cans, which would normally end up in landfills, will be turned into the needed funds used to pay for the spay or neuter surgeries of dogs and cats. As an added bonus, recycling cans will also benefit the planet on which we all must live.
WE ARE ALUMINUM TOO: In addition to soda and beer cans, there are many other cans that are aluminum as well. Not only do we accept aluminum cans, but also scrap aluminum and any items that are made of brass and copper. When trying to determine if an item is aluminum, just remember, a magnet will NOT stick to aluminum. Tin cans such as those that hold corn, beans, carrots, etc. are NOT recyclable. A list of more cans that we have discovered to be aluminum are:
- Fancy Feast Cat food
- Friskies Cat food
- Mighty Dog dog food
- Ol'Roy dog food
- Armour Vienna Sausages
- Sam's Choice Vienna Sausages
- Jalapeno Bean Dip (Food Lion Brand)
- Red Bull Energy Drink
- 180 Energy Drink
- AMF Energy Drink
- SoBe Adrenaline Rush Energy Supplement
- V8 Drink
- KMX Drink
- MET RX Drink

Talk to everyone you know and ask them to start saving cans for us too. The resale price for aluminum is very low so VOLUME is essential to our financial success!

SECOND CHANCE
PROGRAM
The Holly Help Memorial Spay Fund is working in conjunction with the Sullivan County Animal Shelter and the Washington County Animal Shelter where we have instituted our "Second Chance Program". This program provides the entire funding for the spay/neuter surgeries of animals which are adopted from the Sullivan Co. Shelter. The animals that are chosen to receive the assistance from Holly Help are determined by shelter staff and shelter volunteers. Those chosen are dogs and cats which are having a hard time getting adopted and for whom time is running dangerously close to the end. (see our Pet List for photos) These animals can be viewed and adopted at the Sullivan Co Animal Shelter~380 Massengill Rd., Blountville, Tn. the shelter is now open on Saturdays!
Art Sales: Local Bristol artist and animal enthusiast Sherry Sullivan is selling her wonderful art prints of "Rainbow Bridge" and is giving the entire sales profit to The Holly Help Memorial Spay Fund. Sherry can be commissioned to do other art work also. Her "Rainbow" prints sell for a very affordable $5.00 and can be purchased at the following store.
- 1 Hour Photo, Euclid Ave., Bristol, VA
Feral Cats. The Holly Help Memorial Spay Fund works to effect the sterilization of feral cats that are living in colonies and breeding indiscriminately in our area. The feral cats of our community are not forgotten. Assistance is being provided to ferals to receive super low cost surgeries and even lower cost vaccines. A very large thank you goes out to Ferguson Animal Hosptial whose gentle vet and caring staff have also given of themselves on may occasions to help the feral cats of our area.
Feral Cat Trapping Info and Guidelines: Because of Holly Help's extensive background in trapping feral cats with the greatest of success, we have decided to make ourselves available to others who need advice and guidance on how to trap feral cats in the most humane way possible. This information will be made available ONLY to those who are seeking to spay/neuter the ferals and release them after their surgeries. Call for more info~ 276-466-5375
Memorials, Honorariums and Sponserships: Please remember Holly Help and our struggle to assist animals through our always available Memorials for someone who has passed away. Through our Gift of Life Memorials we will help memorialize either a person or a pet. Honorariums are also available for that very special pet or person who is deserving of your friendship and love. Or perhaps you would like to sponser a spay/neuter surgery in part or in full. All three are awarded a place in the Holly Help Special Gifts book and are accompanied by a certificate and receipt. Call for more details on how to turn your aluminum cans into Gifts of Life
